11 Days – Jazz Safaris – Biodynamic Safaris – Foraged Gastronomy

"Music is the heartbeat of Africa. Our specialized music focused programmes are custom built, offering musical depth, logistical excellence and access to extraordinary tourist sites. This 11-day creative, cultural and culinary exploration is focused on showcasing contemporary, urban Africa in Cape Town, through food, music, art, culture and creativity."
Part One

Cape Town: Rhythms & Flavours

Day 1. The Cape Town Jazz Safari

Your first night in Cape Town is made special by being welcomed into the homes of local musicians for dinner and music. Cape Town is an incredibly musical city, where sounds are at their most creative due to the diversity of cultures that have ended up here. On this special music journey, we travel deep inside the jazz music of the city, visiting musicians away from club stages for an intimate evening of conversation and engagement.

Day 2. Elevated Perspectives & Street Food

We start by heading up Table Mountain to spatially, historically, and economically map out the city while unpacking its indigenous history. Back in the city, we meet an artist at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art for a journey through their collection of art from across the continent. The rest of the day is dedicated to culinary explorations, learning about slavery and apartheid through iconic street food such as the Gatsby and snoek parcels, followed by a tasting of Cape Malay dishes in the home of a local cook.

Day 3. The Street as a Gallery

We meet a local graffiti artist for an exploration of the street as a gallery in Woodstock and Salt River, two of the most important areas for murals in the country. This walk explores the politics of art and its role in society. The creative adventure continues with a traditional Cape meal enchanted by a trio of choral singers sharing traditional and spiritual acapella compositions.

Day 5. Peninsula Spirits & Art Institutions

We travel around the Peninsula along the spine of the Table Mountain range, through Hout Bay and over Chapman's Peak to Noordhoek. At the Food Barn, we enjoy chef Frank Deveraux's imaginative dishes before visiting the penguins at Boulders Beach. On the way home, we stop at the Norval Foundation to explore 20th and 21st-century artists, using their works to unfold further threads of South African history.

Part Two

The Winelands: Soil, Art & Heritage

Day 6–7. Eco Safaris & Fynbos Walks

Transitioning to the Winelands, we begin an Eco Safari at Avondale Wine Estate. We dive deep into biodynamic farming techniques, learning about natural eco-systems and indigenous wine-making. In Franschhoek, we join Rob Armstrong at Haut Espoir for a fynbos walk to see how restored ecosystems improve the quality of the grape. We then move into the Dwars River Valley—Pniel, Kylemore, and Lanquedoc—to sample local delicacies and meet the valley's raconteurs.

Day 9. Private Galleries & Artisan Brews

A day dedicated to creativity begins at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden, a magnificent private gallery landscaped into the foot of the mountains. We follow this with a walk through Stellenbosch, South Africa's third oldest town, visiting the GUS Gallery for contemporary art and music explorations. Before returning to our hotel, we stop at Soul Barrel Brewing to sample what many consider the best craft wild ales in the country.

Day 10. Music Tastings & Foraged Gastronomy

For the final full day, we experience a unique music tasting at Black Elephant Vintners, where wines are paired with favourite music tracks to build intimate stories of the label. The gastronomic highlight is lunch at Foliage, where chef Chris Erasmus creates a menu from wild, foraged ingredients found in the surrounding Franschhoek mountains, ensuring a final meal full of imaginative surprises.

Ethical Accommodations

Our journey utilizes stays that make a positive contribution to people and planet. We spend 5 nights in Cape Town at Manna Bay in Oranjezicht, followed by 5 nights in the Cape Winelands at The Light House Boutique Suites in Paarl.
