7 Nights: Cape Town & Kruger National Park

Cape town International Jazz Festival package – music and Wildlife Safari

"This seven-night journey offers the ultimate South African cultural and wilderness experience. We begin by tracing the musical routes of the Mother City, providing deep context for two world-class nights at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, before flying north for a reflective conclusion in the heart of the Kruger National Park."
Part One: Musical Roots (Days 1–2)

Origins and Carnival Echoes

Ancient Sounds and Goema History

The journey opens with an introduction to Goema, co-presented by icon Hilton Schilder. We explore the style's roots in the Cape Minstrel Carnival and the goma drum made from the aloe base. Moving into the city, acclaimed poet Jethro Louw introduces the ancient KhoeKhoe rhythms in the Company’s Gardens. We walk the historic Bokaap to hear a private concert by a goema song group in a local home, discovering how Cape Malay spirituals collide with marching band traditions.

Vinyl Journeys and Traditional Influences

After sampling iconic city dishes like salomies and gatsbys, we dig into jazz vinyl crates to journey through the Cape Jazz songbook. We also visit the home of musician Blacki Tempi to hear traditional rhythms and styles that have profoundly influenced contemporary African jazz.

Part Two: The Stage (Days 3–4)

Jazz Safaris and the Festival

The Cape Town Jazz Safari

An evening is dedicated to visiting local jazz masters in their homes for intimate concerts and traditional Cape meals. We engage with award-winning artists such as Mark Fransman and Maya Spector away from club stages, providing a personal connection to the music before the main event.

The International Jazz Festival

The journey culminates in two full nights at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival at the CTICC. Following a briefing on how to navigate the multiple stages, you experience the vibrant energy of global and local icons in South Africa's premier musical event.

Part Three: Wilderness (Days 5–7)

Kruger National Park

Reflection and Wildlife

Following the festival, we fly north for a two-night wildlife and nature experience in the Kruger National Park. This immersion provides a reflective conclusion to the programme, offering the chance for wildlife encounters in one of the continent's most esteemed conservation areas.
