We programme and execute regional academic immersions from undergraduate to post-graduate level, featuring finely tuned curricula and expert-led site visits.

Whether it’s post-graduate art journeys or large-group sorority vacations, we’ve got it covered.

We specialize in balancing academic rigor with the spirit of discovery, including bush and beach breaks for groups looking to explore together. Below is a programme created for a post-graduate university art group.

11 Days – 10 Nights – Political Art – Heritage – Contemporary Culture

"This 10-night programme is a deep dive into the cultural fabric of Cape Town. From the indigenous origin stories of the Camissa to the contemporary discourse around monuments, public space, and identity, we explore how art and public culture function as a mirror to South Africa's history and its democratic future."

Part One

Roots and Origins

Day 1-3. Establishing Narratives

The journey begins with an introduction to Camissa, the indigenous origin story of Cape Town. We explore the spring systems that shaped early settlement, followed by a nuanced walking tour focusing on slave and indigenous narratives. We visit Robben Island to engage with the political history of the country's liberation struggle, followed by a visit to the National Gallery to view institutional collections against the backdrop of our political timeline.

Part Two

Community and Resistance

Day 4-6. Township Identity and Public Space

We head to the Langa Pass Museum to understand the systems of movement control that defined apartheid. This visit precedes an exploration of the Langa Quarter, a project focused on transforming township identity through social enterprise and public art. We meet with the team from Chimurenga Magazine and engage with the #RhodesMustFall movement at the University of Cape Town, exploring the politics of monuments and the reclamation of university spaces.

Part Three

Contemporary Discourse

Day 9-10. Gallery Sessions and Colloquiums

The final phase focuses on the contemporary gallery landscape. We meet with directors and curators such as Riason Naidoo, Joost Bosland, and Natasha Becker to discuss the trajectory of South African art from the early 20th century to the present. Sessions include visits to the Stevenson and Goodman galleries, concluding with an inter-disciplinary colloquium on the role of the fantastic in visual culture.

Notes for the Journey

Accommodation is provided at iKhaya Lodge in Gardens. While the programme includes six group meals, other meals are for your own account. Transport options include the MyCiti bus system and Uber, with advice to use cabs when returning to the hotel late at night.
